Farewell from the H.O.P.E. 2nd Generation Executive Board

HEY GUYS!

The school year is almost over and six of our wonderful 2nd generation executives have officially graduated from tech! Before half of us leave and move on to college life, there are still a few things that we (the 2nd generation executive board) would like to say.

We would like to thank EACH AND EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU for staying with us for the entire school year. This means A LOT to us especially since we are a new executive board! We H.O.P.E. we were able to bring a little happiness to your lives whether it was through volunteering at events, feeling proud of yourself after realizing that you made a difference in a community, bonding with friends and most importantly, making new friends! It was truly an honor to meet most of you and even if we didn’t meet you, that doesn’t matter because everyone has a special place in H.O.P.E. You guys are truly the best and H.O.P.E. would definitely not be H.O.P.E. without you. THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE!! :D :D :D

Senior Yearbook Distribution Cancelled

Hello everybody,

We were recently informed by the people in charge of yearbook distribution that there is a huge influx of volunteers. Therefore, we have decided that H.O.P.E. will no longer be participating in the this event anymore! This event is cancelled for H.O.P.E. members!

But on the bright side, you may now enjoy your day off!!

Letters of Community Service Pick-up

Hey guys!

To those who did not pick up their community service letters today, you may do so next Tuesday, June 6th, after 10th period in front of room 5S8.

If we did not have your community service letter during the meeting and you are POSITIVE that you attended community service events this year, please contact us at bthshope@gmail.com and we shall look into it ASAP. Remember to include your OSIS number in the email!

Final Meeting - Friday, June 2nd

Hello everyone!

We will be having our final meeting of the year this Friday, June 2nd after 10th period in the SOUTHWEST section of the cafeteria. This meeting is MANDATORY and will be worth 20 points. Failure to attend this meeting will result in a 15 point deduction. Please make sure to SWIPE IN!!

NOTE: We understand that meetings usually take place on a Thursday, in the auditorium but due to instrumental concert rehearsal, the date and location has been moved. (Sorry guys~)

If you are unable to attend this meeting, you must email us at bthshope@gmail.com with the subject titled, “Request for Excusal” and your name, OSIS, and the reason why you are unable to attend in the context. If your reason gets approved, you will not receive any point deductions.

We will be distributing community service hours AND introducing a group of very very very interesting people ;). You’ll get to meet them on Friday :)

Color Run - Queens

Hey guys!

We will be volunteering at the Happiest 5K of the planet a.k.a. The COLOR RUN at QUEENS! The Color Run will be collaborating with an organization called Back on my Feet that uses running to help those experiencing homelessness change the way they see themselves so they can make real change in their lives that results in employment and independent living. Possible positions include handing out water, revving up the crowd at the finish festival, tossing color and more!

** Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothing you do not mind getting dirty**

CMA Arts Fair

Hey guys!

The Children’s Museum of Art will be hosting their 2nd Annual Streets Fair, a free public outdoor event for children and families to embrace art! We will be helping with various art workshops left by the CMA Teaching Artists and helping with the main breakdown of the event (folding vendor tables, tents, and chairs, moving items into the museum, sweeping glitter, etc.)

Teens for Jeans

Hey guy!

Over a million young people experience homelessness in the US every year and one item they often request is a nice pair of jeans. We will be collaborating with the Do Something Club for their Teens for Jeans Drive! For this event, you can donate a pair of gently used jeans to help others in our city who may not have enough money to buy their own, fresh pair!

Jean Collections will begin Monday, May 15th and end Wednesday, May 17th. Please put the jeans in a plastic bag along with an index card with your name, OSIS, and the names of the clubs below that you are participating in.  Please bring your donations to room 1W2.

Cafeteria Set-up

Hey guys!


Mr. Palmer needs all the help he can get with the setup of tables and chairs in the cafeteria for next week’s AP Exams. Set-up will take place next Tuesday, May 16th and this event will be worth 10 points. Feel free to join us beginning 10th period or 11th period and set-up will hopefully end at around 5 - 5:30 PM. We will be meeting by the Southwest side of the cafeteria for sign-ins and sign-outs.

No May Meeting + Father Hearts Ministries

Hey guys!

We will not be having a meeting this month due to APs exams so please ignore what it says on the BTHS calendar! Don’t worry, you’ll be able to see our beautiful faces in the June Meeting. (June Meeting Date - TBA)

In addition to that, we have ANOTHER EVENT!

We will be working at the Father Ministry soup kitchen once again! The Father Hearts Ministries requires each volunteer to provide a VALID PHONE NUMBER. Volunteers will receive a text message from the organization asking to confirm their participation at the event. All you need to do is follow the instructions (which is to type YES) and you will officially be registered as a volunteer.

Cards 4 Kids Extension

Hey guys!

The deadline for the Cards 4 Kids campaign has been extended to next Friday, May 12th! A reminder to drop of all cards in room 1W2 with a sticky note stating your name, OSIS, and H.O.P.E. placed on top of the cards. Please use this extension as an opportunity to earn more points! You can earn a maximum of 20 points by donating 4 cards.

Donut Dash

Hey guys!

For our next event, we will be volunteering at the Donut Dash hosted by the Ambassadors for Sustained Health, an organization whose goal is to break the cycle of poor health! Participants in the donut dash will be running and eating donuts to help raise money for this cause. Volunteer tasks include set-up/clean-up, cheering, participant registration and more!

Foundry Set-up

HELLO!!

Mr. Palmer needs 20 volunteers this Friday, April 28th, from 3:35 PM - 5:45 PM to help set up tables for the upcoming AP Exams. This event will be worth 10 points. Please meet Courtney by the foundry (7th floor, north side) for sign-ins and sign-outs.

Volunteer Hours Opportunity @ STEM EXPO

Hey guys!

Here is an opportunity for you to not only go on a field trip but also earn VOLUNTEER HOURS. We will not be giving points for this event but feel free to join if you would like to!

District 13 will be hosting their annual STEM Expo which gives students a place to exhibit their work which includes expert presentations, STEM based activities, and interactive exhibits. H.O.P.E., Key, and NHS are collectively looking for 20-30 volunteers to become STEM Judges where YOU can decide which exhibit is the best. (This event is SUPER FUN!!)

All attendees will be required to attend a MANDATORY training session as well as the actual event. Both the training and the event day will be counted as SCHOOL TRIPS and you will leave together with a group from school.

*Please note that this takes place during AP season*

MANDATORY TRAINING SESSION FOR STEM JUDGES:

Please drop off a completed permission slip and fill out the sign-up sheet labeled “STEM EXPO SIGN-UP SHEET” in room 1W2. Only the first 20-30 people who hand in their permission slips will be given the opportunity to go. A confirmation email will be sent to you afterwards to confirm whether or not you got the spot as well as additional details.

Deadline for Permission Slips: Thursday, April 27th, 2017.


TFT Japan Day

Hey guys!

Table for Two is BACK and they need help with distributing Harvest Snaps and Shrimp Chips at this year’s Japan Day in Central Park! For each bag that we manage to distribute, Harvest Snaps will donate 25 cents to Table for Two to provide school meals for children in need in the U.S. and East Africa.
